Description
In the middle of a week's visit to Sakai, Japan, I devoted my entire time to wandering the city alone on foot. I have done this in places on four continents and never tired from the walking nor from the excitement of the adventures. I have experienced many of my most enjoyable surprises during these serendipity times. On this day I was not disappointed either. An abundance of Japanese architecture, from modern designs to old traditional wood construction was experienced, enjoyed and hundreds of photos were taken for the basis of my future digital paintings to share the beauty of architectural detail and building craftsmanship many walk by or simply are too busy to see. Large hanging bells (ogane) are a feature in most Buddhist temples. Used to mark periods of the day for monks to pray. A feeling of timelessness, strength, and comfort comes over me in their presence. With the proper viewpoint, beautiful modern abstract art can be derived from these very ancient Buddhists’ bells.
