Description
On the drive to experience the Great Wall, my guide recommended stopping at the tomb of Emperor Zhu Di on the outskirts of Beijing, China. I was not disappointed. This was the first of the thirteen Ming tombs constructed. Nestled in the mountains, the architectural detail was muted, reserved befitting the nature of the site. The ancient traditional Chinese architecture captured within me feelings of calm and timelessness, more of a pleasant visual whisper than a loud shout. In many ways I believe the solid geometric shapes forming this photo painting of the huge tablet at the grave creates a similar mood.
