Description
Sun Moon Lake is located in the middle mountainous area of Taiwan. This beautiful area was the destination for a weekend adventure by car with several Taiwanese friends. Needless to say, the area attracts many visitors. A huge delightful surprise for me was the Japanese architecturally designed Xiangshan Visitor Center we encountered before the lake appeared. Located high above Sun Moon Lake, the view from its large veranda was spectacular. The concrete ultramodern architecture seems to be rising out of its natural surroundings. Its minimalist design did not upstage the view, rather it enhanced the view. Its large windows and vaulted ceiling was just a simple frame for the lake and mountains it faced. Subtle, quiet, unimposing spaces can be very powerful.
