Description
The small town of Nara in Japan is blessed with a collection of several large, impressive and extremely beautiful temples. Centuries old weathered wood construction and craftsmanship is blended with brightly painted decorations throughout the structures. Friendly deer roaming the area give old and young extra enjoyment. I have visited Nara twice. Once joining a group of young friends and the return visit with a class of senior Japanese citizens, I have the honor of being a guest “teacher” on each of my visits to Japan. The joy of architectural detail knows no age limits. For me, the massive size of the Todaiji Temple and the Buddha within created quiet, reverent, thought provoking, humbling feelings much like the ones always experienced when seeing the Grand Canyon. Much too massive to capture in one view, may my photo painting, focused on an architectural detail be uplifting and bring you a sense of joy.
