Whenever possible, I prefer my visits allow enough time to wander about allowing hours to explore. It takes time to “stop and smell the roses” or look closely at your surroundings. Many visual gems awaited discovery in Zhongli, Taiwan, a city near Taipei. Such as the wonderful patterns created by the brickwork in a niche at the back of a couple of old buildings. Old, yes. Worn, yes. I prefer to label it an architectural patina. A type of beauty gifted by time and usage.

Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted.
