On my first visit, I added to my bucket list to ride a bike around the ancient wall in Xi'an, China. Unfortunately the day reserved for the bike ride during a ten day visit a couple of years later it never stopped raining. Perhaps the third time will be the charm. All was not lost as walking, umbrella in hand, I captured a number of wet but wonderful reference pictures. This view contrasting the ancient city stone wall against the backdrop of high rise apartments is a favorite. The muted color softens the cityscape creating a dreamlike time lapse scene of Xi’an’s architecture over centuries. Evolutionary growth in stone, steel and concrete.

Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted.
