Stillness Fills An Autumn Meadow

An autumn meadow settles into quiet stillness as fading grasses and wildflowers meet the dark edge of a surrounding woodlot beneath a softly colored evening sky.

Stillness Fills An Autumn Meadow

Stillness settles over an autumn meadow at the edge of a Hancock County woodlot. The grasses have begun to lose their summer green, taking on muted golds, browns, and subtle touches of red. Scattered wildflowers remain among the fading vegetation, adding small points of color to the otherwise quiet field.

Beyond the meadow, a dense line of trees forms a dark, softly textured boundary. Above it, the last light of the day warms the sky with subdued peach and rose tones. There is little evidence of human activity—no buildings, roads, or machinery—only an open field quietly moving from summer toward autumn.

The scene captures one of those moments encountered during a slow countryside wander when nothing particular seems to be happening, yet the landscape itself seems to ask you to stop. The broad horizontal meadow and distant woodlot reflect the character of Hancock County’s gently rolling-to-flat agricultural landscape, where expansive fields are often interrupted by small stands of trees.
