Architecture and its detail is best experienced slowly. Much like the old saying,“take time to smell the roses”. Buildings and places create reactions, feelings and in many ways enrich my life. While on my second visit to the Grand Mosque in Xian, China, I began to focus on the craftsmanship of wood construction and notably the decorative carvings. Such as this wonderfully complicated craving in an area of the mosque not well seen. Awe and bewilderment of the time and talent present hundreds of years ago that combined to create the countless amazingly complicated pieces I was beholding. This beauty is the result of talent, skill, and patience. Even though I embrace present technology in the arts as I create digital photo paintings, no matter the eon, beauty is born of the artist and the eyes of the beholder.

Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted. Twice during my corporate design career I designed and built my own house. Travels allowed visits to noteworthy architectural sites on four continents.
