One sunny Saturday I joined a group of Taiwanese friends for an adventure to the southernmost tip of Taiwan. A serendipity mood prevailed so our stops were spur of the moment. Arriving at the Youth Activity Center, just to the South of Kenting, we came upon a small campus of brightly painted buildings. The traditional Taiwanese architecture for me was like a diamond-studded ring, very precious having many beautiful facets asking for my visual attention. I felt overwhelmed by the expanse of vivid color. I do not believe the smile on my face went away for hours. Windows, doors, gables, walls, roofs all became subjects for my camera. This photo painting is the first created from this delightful stop.
Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted. Twice during my corporate design career I designed and built my own house. Travels allowed visits to noteworthy architectural sites on four continents.
