Every country has food markets but the floating market at Cai Rang, Vietnam is most unique. Early in the morning swarms of small boats heaped with fruits and vegetables make their way into a mile section of the Cai Rang River. For many hours customers onshore and in boats bargain for and purchase all that is offered. This visually multicolored chaos is like a kaleidoscope constantly moving and changing patterns. For many, this is a way of life as they live in boats constructed of concrete. What these houseboats lack in grace and style is made up of intricate patterns of boxy colored geometric patterns. This Vietnamese architecture is strictly form following function. The architectural details are common household items encrusted randomly over the vessel. Fascinating dwellings in the Mekong Delta.

Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted.
