Using as a wallet
On a few occasions, architecture has given me chills and made the hair rise on my neck. I am stopped in my tracks overwhelmed by the sight and environment I just entered. Entering the main building of the Todaiji Temple in Nara, Japan was one such time. The huge (really colossal) Buddha in the subtle and quiet space inside the structure gave me an instant attitude adjustment. Humbled, speechless, moved into a mental zone not frequented often. Like the first time viewing the Grand Canyon, I needed time to learn how to see what was before me. Architectural detail and sculpture hundreds of years old have not diminished in their ability to affect the mind. In a small way, I share with you in this photo painting my moving and unforgettable experience.
Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted. Twice during my corporate design career I designed and built my own house. Travels allowed visits to noteworthy architectural sites on four continents.
