A day to myself to wander and enjoy the area around a hospital where we were the guests of a Project Hope nurse friend. Am I a fortunate man or what! The several hours I spent in the Hubie Art Gallery in Wuhan, China was an enjoyable learning experience. I find it mind-expanding to observe viewpoints and ideas from other cultures. The artwork, both old and new, added to my ever-growing exposure to seeing things differently. It was while visiting the museum basement I discovered this window that became the basis for this photo painting. The intriguing architectural detail of a window combined with landscaping had become a beautiful piece of art. Like differences in the viewpoints of cultures, this painting was derived from seeing this scene differently.
Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted. Twice during my corporate design career I designed and built my own house. Travels allowed visits to noteworthy architectural sites on four continents.
