Everytime I spend time exploring temples, it never ceases to amaze me the huge amount of time, money, craftsmanship and good architectural design I was viewing. For example, the ceilings of the Jade Palace Temple in Pingtung, Taiwan have been covered with exquisitely hand painted decoration. As the focus in my photo painting shows, even the ceilings of staircases have been given much attention. Temples can be 100 or 1000 years old and I am not sure skills of this quality could be found today. While I do not understand the stories and symbology that surrounded me, I definitely felt reverence and respect while inside the temple walls. In addition, it brought a smile seeing a faith which has smiling faces.
Architecture and architectural detail have been a lifelong love. As a matter of fact, many of my first drawings and paintings were of barns on and around my grandparents farm. When deciding what university major to pursue, it was only due to my less than outstanding math grades that prevented my choice of architecture. However, obtaining a degree in advertising design turned out to be an excellent choice. Yet my interest in architecture persisted. Twice during my corporate design career I designed and built my own house. Travels allowed visits to noteworthy architectural sites on four continents.
